There's a great article over at SearchEngineLand discussing the value of .edu links.
Before you think, "Ya, sure. I know that." No, the article isn't about .edu links. It's about considering the fact that .edu links can be as varied, as any other links available on the Internet. Some are good, some are bad; some of high quality, some from bad neighborhoods; some that will help you rank, and arguably, some that will harm your ranking.
The more things change, the more they remain the same. Just when it seemed like web design was settling down, allow everyone to focus on content, social media, and SEO--along came the smart phone and tablet PCs.
And now, once again web designers are going to find themselves heavily involved in decision making processes, and not simply kept in a back room with a slot for food and water.

If you are a Dreamweaver user, you want to use it to do as much work as possible. And one issue you may have come across is editing a .htaccess file. You can add the ability to edit this file by making a quick change to your Dreamweaver Preferences:
1. Go into Dreamweaver preferences.
2. Under Category, select File Types / Editors.
3. In the Open in Code View text box, add ".htaccess" to the list.
4. Save your preferences.

Rand Fishkin discusses the changes they we all may see in search. The primary change has to do with adding social-media influences, which to me brings a greater human element to search--what are people interested in and what are they talking about.
Change is always good for Internet marketers, because a change in the rules is simply another opportunity to out-perform your competition.
